Building services staff held their third ISA Annual Meeting Sept 21 as University Housing’s directors expressed gratitude for the hard work done by institutional service workers (ISAs) in the last year.

The directors spoke on the theme of working together as a team to build an environment that promotes student success.

Sonya Lambert was selected by her peers as the winner of the 2017 Altruistic Award. Sonya has demonstrated an unselfish attitude serving students and staff this past year. She has been known to “jump in” and help wherever she is needed.

She did a good job leading the Pomfret team as they got Pomfret “in shape” after being closed for the summer. Thank you, Sonya!

Residential facilities staff said goodbye to ISA Ana Flores after 10 years of service.

Most of the staff enjoyed the team building activities – the directors even got in on the fun!

The winning time to reassemble a vacuum cleaner blindfolded was 4 minutes and 36 seconds.

Housing’s directors get into the “blind” vacuum cleaner assembly game with a time of 10 minutes and 12 seconds – not bad for a team of novice assemblers!

Residential facilities director Jeff Vinger recited an “Ode to the ISA”

For our Institutional Service Assistants
This special day is just for you
We appreciate your hard work
And all the things you do

Every resident recognizes your role
How hard you work each day,
The many chores that you must face,
The many dangers in your way.

The risk of slips and falls runs high
With chemicals that may harm,
The aches and tears that no one sees
You hide them with your smiles and charm.

The coordinators support and assess your efforts
They carefully watch over each cleaning crew
And in their hearts great tribute sings
Honoring all the great things you do.

You mop, you dust, you organize
You respond to emergencies with great speed
You clean, you sweep, you disinfect,
You handle everything our residents need.

On this ISA Appreciation Day
We honor each and every one of you,
We value your effort and your role
We thank you so much for everything you do.
