University Housing held the first-ever Social Media Summit Feb. 21 in Futrall Hall.
Nine people attended and learned about new developments in social media across campus from Jessica Leonard, the university’s social media manager. Those who attended also learned about a product called Adobe Spark that allows for the quick creation of art for social media and flyers.
Most who attended were social media managers from the various residence halls. Some coordinators for residence education identified resident assistant staff as social media managers responsible for a hall’s social media accounts.
The group also spoke about ways to better share social media content across the multiple accounts that make up University Housing. Christopher asked the group for possible options and settled on Slack, a cloud-based team collaboration tool.
Christopher showed the growth of the residence hall social media accounts during the academic year and praised Reid Hall as the place where there had been the most growth in social media reach. A small prize will be given to Reid Hall to recognize this achievement.
Those who attended included:
- Selwyn Bachus – social media manager, Maple Hill
- Brianna Boulanger – social media manager, Gibson Hall
- Elrine Goosen – community manager, Northwest Quad
- Caitlin Halpin – social media manager, Reid Hall
