University Housing’s Residence Education area received $8,000 in funding to bolster the success of residential sophomore students considered at academic risk.
Residence Education staff hope to improve the grade point average and the chance of these students graduating from the university through a program of mentorship and structured outreach.
These residential students will meet with their mentor once a month during the next academic year. Those who successfully complete the program will receive a book stipend at the conclusion of the mentor program.
The Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Executive Advisory Board awarded $35,000 in grant funding this March to varying initiatives aimed at increasing student retention and graduation rates.
The selected programs will be able to use their awarded funding in the upcoming academic year.
This year’s grant proposal process used the eight strategic initiatives identified by Chancellor Joe Steinmetz as priority areas to strategically select the recipients.
Those strategic initiatives are found on the website for the Office of the Chancellor.
