University Housing’s marketing team won a second-place award for social media from ACUHO-I during the annual Business Operations Conference.

The Marketing Awards received 253 submissions in 14 categories.

Housing won second place for the Facebook Live effort called #UARKHome Live!

It consisted of a series of 18 live videos filmed in July and August that explored residence halls, campus dining, tech preparation and move-in demo.

A team of three people conducted all of the tours. This team included Christopher Spencer, assistant director for marketing and strategic communications, Kent Perrodin, coordinator for creative services and a student intern or employee who previously lived in the residence halls.

Current marketing intern Julianna Nichols was the tour guide for many of the tours.

“The project was designed to bridge the communication gap about what to expect for incoming students and their parents,” Spencer said. “We got more than 15,000 views and generated hundreds of comments. It’s fair to say our audience was involved in the effort.”

One parent wrote in to Housing to say how much she appreciated the effort.

“All the real time videos of the dorms and such were absolutely awesome. You even went to 1022 in Yocum so my daughter, Madeline, could see her room. You’ll never know how special this was to us as we both watched real time. This just got her even more excited about going to college.”

University of Georgia’s #OneUGA initiative took first place in social media and was named the top marketing project among all 253 submissions.

The project that won first place in the social media category was University of Georgia’s #OneUGA initiative.

The project went on to be named Best in Show among all 253 submissions entered into the Marketing Awards competition.

University Housing at that school worked in collaboration with Multicultural Services and Programs to host a series of virtual and live events in the summer months. The events engaged the incoming first-year class in conversations about campus life, diversity and the challenges and excitement facing students as they enter the fall semester.

An in-person event consisted of a panel of current UGA students discussing common concerns and challenges. In addition, video of the panel discussion streamed via Facebook Live while a large screen on location allowed participants to follow the #OneUGA conversation on Twitter as it happens.

On-location participants were also be able to use a Snapchat filter set up specifically for #OneUGA.
